Motorcycle Driver Hits Deer in Elmer Township

A motorcylist hit a deer in Elmer Township on Friday. Bow hunting season opened on October 1st and it also means an increase to motor vehicle accidents involving deer. The motorcycle accident happened on Marlette Road.

Deer grow more active during the fall reproductive cycle. That, combined with people traipsing through the woods, leaves drivers with a fast approaching "rush hour" for vehicle-deer accidents. October and November are particularly dangerous months.

The driver of the motorcycle is a 39-year-old man from Decker and he was hurt in the accident. The Michigan State Police saw an increase in deer related accidents of 4% from 2005 to 2006.
